Welcome to the Open Hearth Park website. Open Hearth Park officially opened Labour Day weekend 2013. The park is adjacent to Harbourside Commercial Park and will be owned and managed by Harbourside. Open Hearth Park includes a multi-use sports field with synthetic turf, a commons area, an outdoor concert venue and skating area, a playground, a bike park and dog park, and a trail network with bridges connecting downtown Sydney with the communities of Whitney Pier, Ashby and the North End.
The opening of Open Hearth Park had been voted the top news story of the read by the Cape Breton Post! See Post Article.
A number of events are planned for the summer of 2016. Please check our Facebook page for the latest in event postings.

Patrons of Open Hearth Park are asked to be aware of temporary changes in the coming days to our trail system near our concessions stand and childrens park in preparation for Ribfest hosted by the Rotary Clubs of Cape Breton. In particular cable trays will be installed across some of our trails to protect temporary water and electrical infrastructure. Staff will be monitoring our trails to ensure public safety. We will have partial trail closures as part of Ribfest, but our main loop will be rearranged for use and the north end of our park will remain fully functional. We hope everyone comes out to take part in Ribfest and assist the Rotary Clubs of Cape Breton in raising funds for Cape Breton Hospice/Palliative Care.
Parking Changes for Ribfest
From Thursday to Sunday the parking lot by the Open Hearth Canteen will be designated as handicapped parking with the exception of Smitty's canteen customers picking up orders. Security will monitor parking. Parking for the Sydney Ribfest will be in all other parking areas at Open Hearth Park and Harbourside Commercial Park. Parking areas will be designated. Please drive safe and enjoy the weekend's activities and food!
